Belton Park Avenue
Project for a sister-in-law in Dublin 9
Alterations and extension to a house, that reflected on the needs of a family with three rapidly growing girls.
The kitchen was relocated to the rear reception room of this 1940s terrace, opening up to a full-width extension onto the garden. The site had an anomaly of boundaries that splayed at contrasting angles to the rear wall of the house. To correct this, the extension introduces its own angular planes.
A glazed screen is deep set to mitigate solar gain and create a sheltered platform. The sloped reveals reference the chamfered edges of a picture frame. The aluminium sheet and seam wrapping aesthetically integrates a living picture in its surrounding.
